  I just installed this so that I could stream FLAC files to my Squeezebox 1 without constant rebuffering. Worked fine on OS 10.5.8. I'm running iTunes 10.0 and it didn't have any problem, but I'm not certain that it actually used the LAME encoder instead of its own. But I just needed it for Squeezebox Server and it seems to be the only game in town. Incidentally: you need to stop and restart the Squeezebox Server after you install this.

  does not work well in iTunes 7 or higher or Mac OS X 10.5 or higher,, ive tested this on Power PC G3, G4, G5, and intel with 10.4 and 10.5 on an external Firewire 320gb Hard Drive Booted up

  if you have an older mac your still holding onto and your still stuck at iTunes 6 and Mac OS X 10.4 you will love this app for better quality MP3's at a lower bit rate, I used this mostly on an old Media Center - 2002 Power PC dual G4 867Mhz with iTunes 6 and Mac OS X 10.4.11 for quite a few years already. Haven't seen any updates since 2007 so 4 stars in stead of 5

I do presentations, and conduct workshops and seminars and use a small Sanyo 258 MEG MP3 voice recorder that can double as an MP3 player. I need to edit files to create CDs of my presentations. To do so I need to use some reliable user friendly tools. I use the Sanyo recorder and upload the recordings through the USB port into iTunes, into a pre-arranged playlist folder (Sam's Recordings). I have the iTunes-LAME encoder which I activate through the script on the menu bar of iTunes which convers all the files I have in my designated playlist folder. While it takes a bit of time, it does a good job of converting the files. Then I use Audacity to edit the MP3s if they need to be shorted or edited in any way, and save them as MP3s in a separate folder. I have pre-set my iTunes to burn playlists as MP3s, and so I arrange the audio in the order of sequence I want, and give the folder a title, and then I burn the CD as MP3. I could not do this within this great program. iTunes -LAME Encoder rocks! I use a G4 12 inch Titanium PowerBook with OSX 10.4.3

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Two issues: 1. The encoder fails to import into iTunes since upgrading to 4.7.1, and crashes on import attempt. This makes it effectively useless. Downgrading to 4.7 makes no difference. My post on the Blacktree forums has so far gone unanswered. 2. This app could badly do with an "export only" option, as (like me) I'm sure there are others who need to convert their AACs into MP3s for playback on non-m4a compatible devices. At present it is necessary to delete converted MP3s from two locations (destination folder *and* iTunes Library), a somewhat redundant procedure.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I just installed and used the iTunes-LAME encoder to convert the unprotected AACs in my iTunes library to MP3s to put on a CD for my daughter to use in her new MP3 boom box. While this is not a speedy process (1.2 GHz G4 upgrade in a Sawtooth), it wasn't bad either.

Hands down sounds better than the iTunes MP3 encoder at that rate. LAME @ 224 in stereo is just the optimum setting for me. The LAME process definately takes much longer than iTunes MP3 encoding unfortunately. But this program is quite great esp. with it being free and all. Worth a donation.

This is great as I typically rip whole CDs for archiving and consistently use the same insane settings. The iTunes-LAME Encoder is easy to set up and then rip away. Awesome!
