Being a great DJ, according to superstar spinner Paul Oakenfold, is about more than just pushing buttons, quick drops, and gimmicks. It's about the story you tell and the journey you take your fans on through the music you play, he says. And it's about the release that comes from hearing and feeling a well-tooled set. Oakenfold's career course is equally riveting.
After making Ibiza a dance music capital 30 years ago with his highly attended acid house parties, he began producing and remixing music for the likes of Happy Mondays ("Step On"), Massive Attack ("Safe From Harm"), U2 ("Even Better Than the Real Thing"), Crazy Town ("Starry Eyed Surprise"), and Madonna ("What It Feels Like for a Girl", "Hollywood", "American Life", "Sorry" and "Give It 2 Me").
Oakenfold, who spent his early career playing nightclubs, would eventually open for mega-artists such as Madonna, U2, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and headline such monumental venues as the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden, Coachella's main stage, the Great Wall of China, and -- most recently -- 17,000 feet above ground at the base camp of Mt. Everest.
"What makes those moments special?" Oakenfold asked Download.com. "Personal achievement and playing out of your comfort zone."
Currently on the Generations World Tour, with dates confirmed through New Year's Eve, Paul Oakenfold gave Download the download on his favorite apps.

I have their whole system and it's just a great sound and set up. I love those guys.
I mainly travel with them, so it's good to have their app on my phone.
