You are being invited to participate in a research study. Participation in research is completely voluntary.
The purpose of the study is to understand the electricity provided by ECG in this area.
We estimate that it will take you less than 15 minutes to install and learn how to use the app, and after that, less than 15 minutes of engagement time a month.
Risks and/or discomforts may include the risk of breach of confidentiality.
There is no direct benefit to you. We hope that DumsorWatch will help you understand where there are power outages in Accra. We also hope that this information will help improve the delivery of electricity in Accra, including potentially in your neighborhood.
Introduction: The aim of the study is to examine the use and reliability of the electricity in Accra. We are testing a technology that will automatically detect when there is a power outage happening. We are inviting you to participate by installing this app because you live in Accra, which is the city that we are studying.
Procedures: The DumsorWatch App will automatically collect the data listed below from your phone whenever it is on to determine whether a power outage is happening at the location of your phone. You may use the app if you wish to learn about where there are power outages in Accra. We expect you to require less than 15 minutes of engagement time a month.
Data Collected: Data collected by the DumsorWatch app will include; network metadata, cellphone metadata, audio, location, acceleration and other sensor readings. You may choose to opt out of location sampling at anytime in the DumsorWatch app. For a detailed explanation of the sensing methodology, please go to: http://grid.watch.
Benefits: The DumsorWatch app will allow you to better understand outages that are happening in Accra, Ghana. We also hope that this study will help improve the electricity network in Accra.

You may only participate if you are at least 18 years of age.
Discontinuing Study Participation: You may choose to withdraw from the study at any time by deleting the DumsorWatch app from your phone.
Costs: As with any networked App DumsorWatch will use some of your phone's battery and internet data (from WiFi or cellular) when running, as well as your time spent using it. DumsorWatch has been designed to minimize battery and data usage. DumsorWatch monthly data usage includes initial download (around 10 mb), periodic check-in messages (around 100 kb), events (around 1 mb), and background updates (around 1 mb). Based on MTN data rates of 20mb for 0.5GHC, this will likely be less than 0.4GHC per month. We estimate that it will take you less than 15 minutes to install and learn how to use the app, and after that, less than 15 minutes of engagement time a month.
