Whether you're in college, work a 40-hour work week, or are a stay-at-home parent, keeping track of everything in your life is never easy. Whether it's meetings, appointments, keeping track of contacts, or even what time to pick up your daughter after soccer practice, without some help, it's difficult to keep track of it all.

Fortunately, there's a whole genre of software dedicated to reining in all your appointments, contacts, and important responsibilities. Personal Info Managers are designed to keep all your important information in one place. You can keep track of recurring meetings and appointments, special dates like birthdays and anniversaries, and contact information for friends, coworkers, and business clients. Though it takes some time to enter all this information, once your Personal Info Manager is up to speed, you'll never have to worry about forgetting a phone number or being late to a meeting again.

Personal Info Managers come in all shapes and sizes here at, so I've found some top-notch free programs to get your personal information in order.

EssentialPIM makes it easy to store your personal information using an intuitive interface. The navigation panel on the left side of the window lets you quickly scan your schedule, to-do lists, and contacts. The searchable contact database helps you quickly get the phone number you need, and the flexible-scheduling calendar makes it simple to plan appointments, recurring meetings, and events. EssentialPIM helps you get started with the ability to import Outlook contacts, as well.

MSD Organizer Freeware takes storing your information a bit further with extra categories like music, budget, and health-tracking components. You can add tons of notes and information for each of your contacts, and the calendar app has extra features for writing sticky notes to attach to appointments. The music organizer helps you track every MP3 on your hard drive and allows you to add information about albums, songs, and shows. Though this Personal Info Manager might be information overload to some, if you're obsessive about getting into the details, MSD Organizer will be perfect for you.

Mozilla Sunbird from the makers of Firefox and Thunderbird lets you integrate your calendar, contacts, e-mail, and appointments so you can find everything you need in one place. You'll get meeting notifications, reminders for events and birthdays, and you can create task lists so you get everything done on time. There's also a Sunbird-powered plug-in called Lightning for Thunderbird. My coworker, Seth Rosenblatt, has nothing but rave reviews using Thunderbird with Lightning instead of Outlook.

It's tough to remember all the appointments, meetings, phone numbers, and events in our lives. With one of these apps on your hard drive and a little initial elbow grease, you will have everything stored in one place for easy access.
