From the developer: "CommView is a program for monitoring Internet and Local Area Network (LAN) activity capable of capturing and analyzing network packets. It gathers information about data passing through your dial-up connection or Ethernet card and decodes the analyzed data. With CommView you can see the list of network connections and vital IP statistics and examine individual packets. Packets are decoded down to the lowest layer with full analysis of the most widespread protocols. Full access to raw data is also provided. Captured packets can be saved to log files for future analysis. A flexible system of filters makes it possible to drop packets you don't need or capture only those packets that you wish to capture. This application is designed for Internet users and small and medium-sized networks and can run on any Windows system. It requires an Ethernet or Wireless Ethernet network card supporting the NDIS 3.0 driver standard, or a standard dial-up adapter.

"Additionally, our new remote monitoring technology allows CommView users to capture network traffic on any computer where Remote Agent is running, regardless of the computer's physical location. To take advantage of this unique feature, you need to deploy CommView Remote Agent, an affordable add-on for CommView. on the surface great features

Cons

hard to manage and make changes to system

Summary

Can not uninstall system due to missing drivers and the fact that the original installation corrupted the install.log file in Windows 7.

Pros

* Very light, doesn't consume much ram or cpu.

* Can sniff dialup (ras) connections. Many competitors can't.

* You can apply many filters.

* Can decode many formats.

Cons

* Packet generator is not very easy to use.

* TCP session reconstruction needs more features

User interface is pretty good and easy to use.

Cons

Capturing rules should be made pre-defined.

The product should be equiped with some basic rules for the user to use.

Pros

I love this program because it has an easy to use interface, it doesn't use much CPU or Memory, and you can add an alias to IP Addresses you want to remember. This makes it simple to block unwanted connections to your computer.

Pros

Packet Sniffers are not only the domain of 'hackers.' In fact mostly all tools have a legit function which are then used by malicious 'hackers' and hackers that are learning. Wanna watch the traffic coming to and fro to your computer? Try this - although there are tools like the 'Ethereal' open source program which are free and very good, but why not try one of the best free for 30 days, then goback to open source.

There are some very good tools around but I like this one because it groups similar things together which makes it easier to spot things of interest.
