At least Tickershock looks like a classic ticker and can stretch across the entire screen. Try it first for free.
If you want something even more useful, try RSS Menu. It's so highly customizable it can set different refresh times for individual feeds (minutes, hours, days). Secondly, instead of cluttering up your screen, it has a nice little menu bar icon that changes colors when new articles arrive. It will even utilize Growl to let you know.
Start with these free alternatives first. If you still have $20 burning a hole in your pocket and you want to be underwhelmed, by all means, pay for Zipline.
Way overpriced

For those who want something non-ticker, try RSS Menu. Wonderful little RSS trawler where you can set the refresh rate of each feed individually. Oh, and it's free and has been around forever and works with Growl. I'm sure some bright individual will eventually create a Growl theme that is a ticker.
If you just need your ticker in your Firefox browser for example, just get the add-on RSS Ticker--also free.
