Yojimbo for Mac is an uncomplicated organizational application that allows you to collect and manage files using its well-designed tagging system. A small number of performance issues may discourage you from using this application, but rest assured that Yojimbo will ease your usual workflow.
Straightforward interface: Thanks to the ever-present Drop Dock, using this program could not be easier. Yojimbo presents all files in a neat manner, organizing photos, bookmarks, and more into separate locations, and we enjoyed the helpful preview screen that allows you to see the contents of a file without opening it.
Intelligent features: Yojimbo for Mac boasts a powerful tagging and search system that allows you to find files with exact precision. We were impressed that Yojimbo was usually able to identify what type of data we had added, such as a URL, and placed it in the most relevant location without any input from us.
Affordable, efficient synchronization: The latest update added more stability to the synchronization tool offered by Yojimbo. The sync tool performed flawlessly during tests, making data easy to download to another device. At a $3/month subscription price, this tool is completely optional and costs less than some competing programs.
Inconsistent processing: The overall performance of Yojimbo for Mac varied greatly during tests. For example, files were always easily found after completing searches, but the search process itself sometimes had sluggish feel and took longer than desired to generate results.
Yojimbo for Mac is likely to improve your work efficiency with its useful toolkit and affordable pricing plan, and despite the mixed performance, we believe this program is the best choice for those only needing a small amount of organization to those needing a massive amount.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Yojimbo for Mac 4.0.3.
Fixed cases in which the application created a legacy Web Archive item when it should instead have created a PDF snapshot.
The "Downloads" window (and associated menu command) have been retired as surplus to requirements. (PDF archives from web pages are created immediately.)
Made changes to improve the reliability of PDF archives created from web pages when the page's content load depends on JavaScript running when the page is loaded.
Fixed a case in which the desktop application would crash during iPad sync when an item being synced had a pathologically long name (such as might happen when pasting the entire contents of a note into the Name field).
When generating the item name while creating a PDF from a web page, Yojimbo will now strip extraneous line breaks and spaces from the beginning and end of the page's title; and will convert any line breaks within the title to spaces.
Fixed bug in which user-supplied metadata from the Quick Input panel wasn't stored when creating a PDF from a web page.
