Editors' Review

WatchESPN brings you live coverage of some of the hottest sporting events, including games from the NBA, NFL, MLB and all four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, as well as some of the most popular sports shows in the US, but only if you have a contract with one of the supported providers.

Enjoy the action on the go: On those days when you're not at home, WatchESPN turns out to be a good alternative to your TV, especially if you run it on a large-screen tablet and have a good Internet connection for seamless streaming.

Easy-to-use interface: The app sports a straightforward UI that looks good in both landscape and portrait mode and that features thumbnails with the available videos, which are conveniently grouped into Live, Must See, News, and Originals. Browsing through videos is quick and enjoyable.

Decent video streaming quality: While there's usually a bit of a delay with most videos, the playback is good enough to be entertaining, if you have a good device and a good connection (and not too many apps running in the background).

Useless without a provider: You cannot enjoy live video content with this app unless you are signed to AT&T, Verizon, Google Fiber, DISH, or a handful of other providers. Also, keep in mind that when traveling abroad, the streaming for some games might not work due to location-based restrictions.

Some content limited to tablets: Monday Night Football works only on tablets, and as you use the app you may run into other video content that won't play on a smartphone because of the screen size.

Bottom Line

If you subscribe to one of the supported providers, you should definitely check WatchESPN, which, although not perfect, has enough sports coverage and a good enough streaming quality to make it enjoyable. Keep in mind, though, that because of its location-based limitations for some content, it isn't ideal for travelers.
