Waltr for Mac enables you to upload MKV, FLAC, and many more file types to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch for native playback. Its easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface will appeal to no-nonsense users.

Pros

Helpful video tutorial: While Waltr is incredibly easy to use, the developers have included an interactive video tutorial to get you started. In under a minute, you will be uploading files to your iPhone, iPad, and/or iPod Touch for instant playback.

Drag-and-drop display: Waltr for Mac uses drag-and-drop functionality to make it incredibly easy and efficient to upload files. We just located the MKV file we wanted to upload, dragged it to the app, and in a matter of seconds, it was uploaded to our iPod Touch.

Cons

Pay after trial: Waltr for Mac has an ample 14-day trial period, which is plenty of time to give it a go. While some might scoff at the price tag, others will find it more than reasonable for being able to upload so many different file types for easy playback.

Bottom Line

Waltr for Mac doesn't have a lot of needless bells and whistles; it just performs as promised. Sure, you'll have to pay after the trial period ends, but if you want to upload MKV and FLAC files for native play on your Apple mobile device, you can't go wrong with Waltr.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Waltr for Mac 1.0.8.

Developer's Description

WALTR is a Mac app that converts MKV & FLAC files directly to iPhone/iPad for Native Playback. No additional iOS apps required. WALTR is designed to make it easy to transfer and convert any music or video file to an iPad or iPhone format for native playback. It supports a huge variety of media file types, including MP3, MP4, AVI, CUE, WMA, M4R, AAC, M4V, M4A, FLAC, ALAC, MKV, and more. It even supports file types that are not normally compatible with iOS, including MKV, AVI, FLAC, and CUE, allowing them to be played in the native Music and Movie apps on iOS. Using WALTR is simple. After closing iTunes, a user just needs to plug an iPhone or iPad into a Mac and open the WALTR app. The iOS device and its available storage space is listed at the top of the app, and files can be dragged to the blank space in the app for immediate transfer to the iOS device. Uploads begin as soon as a file is dragged into the WALTR app, and most uploads are very quick, taking a few seconds. Once a file has been transferred to the iPhone or iPad, it is accessible in either the native Movies or Music app on the iOS device, and overall, the WALTR process is simpler than converting via a separate app and then uploading through iTunes.
