You really can't judge a book by its cover. Take Wallpaper Master Pro. Its gray tabbed menus, cryptic labels, and tiny selection windows make it about as welcoming as a wall of slate. However, this desktop wallpaper-management utility is fairly easy to use. Just add images (up to 32,000!) to the program's master list, and set the options for position, watermark, order of appearance, and change interval. You'll even find a couple of simple effects, such as a black-and-white filter. Configurable hot keys and a system-tray icon allow for quick wallpaper switches. An especially nifty feature is the ability to automatically select a complementary background color for wallpapers that don't stretch across the screen. You'll have to use another program to touch up your images, since this one doesn't include a graphics editor. But that's OK. We'd rather a program do one thing well than many things poorly. We wouldn't recommend Wallpaper Master Pro to neophytes, but it's a good choice for computer-savvy desktop mavens.
