Editors' Review

TouchPal Keyboard lets you swipe your fingers across the keyboard without worrying about hitting individual buttons as it works to predict what you're trying to type. The more you use the app, the more accurate it will become, and it can eventually enable you to type all kinds of messages very quickly.

Pros

Made for speed: If speed is what you're interested in, this keyboard is a great choice. It eliminates the need for tapping almost completely, giving you free reign to slide over all of the keys on your way to the letters you actually want. This may be a big adjustment for some people, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be slamming out text in no time.

Scrollable emoji: A nice extra feature is the built-in emoji keyboard. Not only does this eliminate the need to switch keyboards when you want to add emoji to what you're typing, but the characters are presented in a scrollable list rather than in pages that you have to swipe thorough, making it even more convenient to find the one you're looking for.

Cons

Hidden tutorial: This app isn't terribly complicated to use, but there are some specific swiping gestures you need to know about in order to access certain features and types of characters. Unfortunately, none of this information is presented up front when you install the app, and you have to go hunting a little bit to find the tutorial. It would be nice if there were just a few more tips presented up front when you first set up the app.

Predictive block: Rather than showing letters as you type, this app only shows the keys you've hit in a predictive block until you hit the Space Bar or any punctuation -- at which point, the entire word is entered into the text field. This is definitely a big adjustment for most people and can be hard to get used to.

Bottom Line

TouchPal Keyboard is a great option if you'd rather swipe than type. It does predict what you want to say reasonably well, but it's also probably not the right fit for a lot of people. It is free, however, so there's no reason not to try it out to see if it's something you'll enjoy using.
