The Walk - Fitness Tracker and Game is a fun way to motivate yourself to keep moving, as it ties your ability to unlock more of the story to how much time you spend walking. You can choose to leave it on throughout the day to push yourself to walk more as part of your daily routine, or you can use the audio checkpoints as mini-challenges to go for short walks whenever you want to hear a little more.
Good motivation: This app is a great tool to help you choose to incorporate more walking into your daily routine. Whether that walking comes all at once or just little by little throughout the day, the app will record your total and unlock the associated number of audio clips.
Listening options: As you unlock more audio clips, you can choose to listen to them as soon as they're available, or you can save them for later and listen all at once. There is no time limit for listening, so you don't have to worry about losing access if a clip becomes available at a time when you can't listen to it immediately.
Background refresh: In order for this app to track your activity throughout the day, you have to keep the Background Refresh switched on at all times. While the app description says it doesn't rely solely on GPS to determine your routes and location, it stayed on throughout our testing and did drain the battery pretty quickly.
The Walk is a well-made app, and the story includes lots of intriguing details to keep you coming back for more. It costs $4.99 on the App Store, and the only drawback is the impact the Background Refresh can have on your battery life.
