Hi my name is Peter honey the founder and developer of the tool tracker.
Over many years of frustrations as a trade based business owner I was always making calls and not knowing where tools were . Who had what? Where the bloody jack hammer was blah blah blah.
Some times to find there missing or even just sitting around on a site.
Trust me when I say we have tried allot of solutions for this problem.
We had a sign in register where if the tool was taken that plumber had to sign the tool out. And on the return of the tool sign it in.
In a perfect world this would have sufficed.
But it got too hard to monitor and keep every one accountable.
We had white boards with photos of the tool and you write your name against the tool.
Great idea but the white board marker would go missing and guess what your never real sure of who had the tools or where they were .
So over the years of frustrations I came up with a simple idea.
The tool tracker.
It's one of those ideas that popped into my head and I thought I need some thing that is easy to use and the reporting and search function can be real time.
We have a number of trucks, sites , an office or even tools can be in the repairers and on any one day there could be between ten and twenty transactions of where these tools are located.
The best is when we swap a tool from one truck to another truck.
The calls go out to track down this particular tool and we find that it's on some one else's truck.
Oh and when you call that tech says " nah I don't have it"
Ha it's so much fun. But then realising the tool is in the back of there truck.
The tool tracker a web based App interactive solution to my and every company who has plant and tools of all values.
It's so simple to use once your set up.
Brief over view.
You do a list of all your tools to start with this is a great place to keep the data of all your assets.
You register your trucks.
Your construction sites you may have.
Your repair companies details where you have the tools fixed.
Then enter your staff.
All these details are housed on your web solution but the greatest thing is you can add create, edit and move all these tools and locations around with the ease of an app that sits in your pocket on a smartphone.
Firstly for this to work it had to be easy to use. An app was a solution that is current.
Every person I know has the ability to run an app on their phone.
One of the best features is the search feature. You simply search up jackhammer and if you have one or many the tools will be listed but also customised to you and your business with photos of your tools.
We numbered our plant to help differentiate.
When your in the office to grab a tool to take to a job and you press the office tab, to locate the tool you want simply tap on it except the tool and it will be on your truck then you are responsible.
It's built with history tracking so you have access to the two other movements of this tool prior to the last person.
Yep we have had tools put back for use and the end of the lead was missing.
But no one knew who did that ?
I'm not saying the tool tracker will stop mistreatment but it's built so when you do put the tool back or drop it off there is a condition prompt.
So you can't move the tool from your truck to the office without tapping a condition.
All that data is tracked.
Plus your staff should respect the tools a bit more knowing there is a system tracking where your tools are at all times and who has them.
