The Wood Species app has been created by the Timber Research and Development Association, to help professionals in the construction and furniture industries choose the most suitable material for their project.
The app includes information on characteristics and properties for 40 commonly-used species FREE of charge, or you can upgrade for only 4.99 to access 100 more which are "locked" with a padlock symbol in the free version. After upgrading simply go back to the A-Z species page and you will find that all species are now accessible.
Search for 40 commonly-used wood species by a range of criteria such as durability, uses, colour, density, movement and availability. Or simply browse the A-Z listing which includes thumbnail wood grain images.
Once you have made your selection you can discover more about other characteristics - including strength, drying, working qualities and environmental information. You can then share a summary and an image of a particular species to a colleague or a client via the email option.
The app links to the TRADA Membership Directory for information on suppliers of hardwoods and softwoods. Less common species are available for a small charge via the in app purchase option.
