• Flexible but quirky, expensive, annoying

  Lots of control over output, more than any other program I know of.

  Cons

  Fails on files that will play on most any other player (I've not figured out how they manage to do that) -- typically have to go to Format Factory, which doesn't have anywhere near the controls of TMPGEnc. Interface is annoying; was much better in earlier versions. Looks like Microsoft might have tried to design it. Very expensive (about $100 or thereabouts if I recall), for which one might expect some decent maintenance, updates, etc.

  High quality results. Able to decode and encode MKV, Dolby Digital+, and much more. Rapid encoding using nVIDIA CUDA. Exceedingly flexible video editing options.

  Cons

  Needs an Internet connection to occasionally refresh license key. No DTS decode or encode support.

  There use to be Pros, but that was in the initial releases.

  Cons

  Does not update or maintain encoder engines. Does not come with all/proper decoders. Does not work any more most of the time. Does not encode audio to anything other than stereo or mono.WOW!!! Uses LEAPS, which requires constant internet connection.

• Extremely slow converter.

  It can set up and convert more than 1 movie and record on 1 single disc.

  One of the slowest converters.

  Summary

  I spent about 36 hours to convert 2 movies each about 1 and 1/2 hrs into one file so that I can burn it into one single disc. It's name is Xpress TMPGEne but it contradicts with it's performance.

  great quality video encoding. add effects to your video, cut video just about a whole package to encode your videos with advanced settings

  I use this program to redo mp .MPG files recorded from SageTV and convert them to MPEG-4 and works very good. You can add effects to your video and use filters such as deinterlace, video crop noise reduction, color correction audo noise reduction, video/audio fade in plus even more. cut your videos frame by frame choosing your "start point" and "end point" of video output video to MPG AVI MPEG-4 VOB quictime MOV DivX Buray MPEG stadarrd format Super Video MPG Standard, standard MPEG and more. audio only output too like Wave, MPEG audio, Dolby Digital audio. before encoding you can choose video and audio bitrate of choice (as always should) FPS Aspect Ratio select video passing option (1 pass or 2 pass VBR or CBR and all that. I had Very nice looking encoding results (depending on source video for you) in sync video. I recommend this one. Thanks for reading.

  the program produces a nice image in a multiable of formats which is handy for making video dvd or just editing your footage a feature a lot of others don't do very well like nero and window movie maker

  Cons

  the processing time I have found to be on the slow side when compared with programs like format factory and nero recode for this reason I would say the price is a little high

  using the trail verison I have found this program gives a good reproduction and in some cases improved the image quality as with the audio I found no real change from the orginal track. from an editing and design point i find this program to offer a little more flexablity compare to some like ulead and cyberlink software

  The cut/Edit editor is not the best i know, forget it. <p>If MPEG is the base format ( from SD to HDV ) , use Mpeg video Wizard.

  BTW, the trial download is working now. <p>This is a great product if you need to re-encode video files or prepare videos for DVD authoring, for showing on the web at sites like Youtube, etc. You can basically encode any video to any other video format (there are exceptions of course, but there's a wide range of formats in this thing!). I also like all the filters, which will help you de-interlace your video or fix colors. Good stuff!

  Cons

  Hmmm.. the price? It's a bit steep but you get a fairly robust encoder. Lots of settings that you can adjust.
