Create your own tunes with help from StageLight's easy-to-follow lessons, preconfigured templates, and intuitive methods. You can try StageLight free for 30 days. Recent updates include the latest Artist Sound Pack -- the Timbaland Pack.
StageLight opens with a fullscreen display with links to SongBuilder Lessons, Demo Lessons, Fresh Start Project, and the Store. Registered users can download free extras at the store, such as the Loop Pack and Core Pack, and buy Artist Sound Packs like the Linkin Park Pack. Experienced music makers should have no trouble starting with a new project, but we clicked SongBuilder Lessons and chose Dubstep from a list that also offered Hip Hop, House, Pop, Country, and Rock. StageLight loaded a Dubstar track, which we could start and stop by pressing the spacebar. The wizard-like lesson walked us through each step of the Track Selection page, starting with the Drum Track. Double-clicking the track opened the Drum Machine with sample drum tracks (Snare, Tom, Hat, etc.) in Lanes. Clicking a Lane opened massive options. After that came the Bass Track (with Note Editor) and then Synth, Synth Lead, and so on. The user interface is stylish and easy to navigate, but its widescreen configuration made it difficult to access some controls (such as the Lesson's Next button) on narrower displays. Sound quality was top-notch.
StageLight is only $9.99, which makes it far less expensive than similar programs. OpenLabs describes StageLight as "the easy way to create music," and we'd have to agree. Aspiring musicians should give this one a try.

There aren't many. It's cheap but you get what you pay for...
Bad or no support from the help desk (emails are not useful or you're being ignored)
Bad plug in support
Not too many options/knobs/tweaks/settings for more professional artists
Bugs and app crashes
Ugly (windows) interface
Unclear difference between a normal account and an artist account
Not as easy to learn as Open Labs claims
Contests and contest rules are contradictory or unclear
Contest prizes take very long to deliver (8 months in my case)
When a prize gets delivered, not all parts get delivered
Just try FL Studio, watch a 15 minute tutorial and do the real job
For a DAW under $10, I figured I couldn't go wrong. In theory, it's a good program-most features are easy to find and apply-I thought it'd be a good program to record with, kind of like a Garageband for windows. However, it's been giving me strange technical problems all the time, forcing me to quit and restart projects-I can't make music with this. For one, almost every time I've tried to use it, it eventually gets stuck if you try to play something (the stop button keeps blinking forever), and none of the buttons will get you out of it unless you save and quit, which doesn't always work. Also, if you record a real instrument, it transposes random parts out of key for no reason, like it thinks it's helping you. These technical problems have made it impossible to record with, at least for me. I haven't heard of many people having these problems, but that's my beef with it.
- Very easy to pick up and use
- Versatile, with VST plugins supported
- Sounds great
- Some of the instruments are a little odd; what does it take to get a piano?
- Quite a few in-app purchases
Stagelight is really, really good! It was easy enough for me to pick up in about two hours, despite having never even touched a music program before, but is very versatile and powerful at the same time. I feel like a real composer! Definitely recommended, and cheap too.

Version: StageLight 18.104.22.16837
-Easy to use
-Great built-in synths and effects
-Very-very low price
- Sound flickering when VST plugins, preset change
- No send channels
Stagelight is an amazing, easy to use DAW. The interface is very clean, the drum track is a fast as hell groove making unit. The built-in effects and synths are real surprise. Great sound quality tools for few bucks. The built-in MIDI and VST capability are great addons and open nearly endless possibilities for the users. And if you take a look for the Touch control capabilty Stagelight is a really unique program both in home studio or live. Unbeatable price/value. "Gives life back to music". :)

Version: StageLight 126.96.36.19937
Pretty easy to navigate through the menus. Customer support is great.
I can't tell the difference between the standard version and add on bundle.
I have not really had much of a chance to use this, but it seems pretty easy to figure out. I got this free when I bought a new laptop. I was supposed to have come with the Linkin Park bundle and didn't. I emailed their support and in less then an hour, they added it to my account. My only con is that I can't tell the difference between the standard instruments and ones from the Linkin Park bundle.
