Skreeky is a position based audio chat that makes it possible for you to get in contact with your friends and make new friends by talking to all of them at the same time. You just download the application to your phone and turn it on. You will then immediately be connected to our server and be able to hear other users and add your own 5 second contributions. Chat away. If you want (and have GPS enabled) you can choose only to talk to people in your near area - you have a slider to define what radius around you want to listen and contribute too. Imagine you are out on the city. You turn the application on and choose a 500 meter radius.
Seems like a great application than complements text chats when you are out. Also cool that it is working with position.
Unfortunately the critical mass issue is important here. Not that many users when I tested, but if more people start using it it could go viral. I will be keeping track.
When downloading this application it was easy to get started. I turned on the language filter but stayed on the All channel and I set the slider to infinity. Immediately there were some people out there talking. I got a feeling of CB radio or Walkie-Talkie. The first time I got in we discussed the use for a little while. Sure, there were not that many people there the times I have been in, but I got a good feeling and we agreed it could be used by everything from a few friends to (if it gets more use) getting to know and chat to new people. I have started with ?chatting? with a few of my friends from time to time that are spread over the country. I could imaging it being used extensively by social networking ?kids? from high school to university if it just caught on. I would also have liked a web based ?listen? application that I could have at home to listen to my friends. So, I encourage you to test it and bring your friends in.
