Sight Word Swipe Plus uses a simple and intuitive interface that lets users focus mainly on the sight words.
Using their finger, the user can swipe left to advance to the next word, or swipe right to return to the previous word. A small counter in the lower right of the screen displays the current progress through the word list. The words are arranged into 5 separate groups and Sight Word Swipe allows the following customizations:
- Display words in lower-case
- Display words in upper-case
- Display words in a random mix of upper-case and lower-case
- Alphabetical word order
- Random word order
A key feature of Sight Word Swipe Plus is the use of text-to-speech (TTS) to say the word aloud by pressing the speak icon. This is useful in helping children with their pronunciation.
While Sight Word Swipe Plus is aimed at a younger audience, it can also be very useful for anyone of any age learning to read English.
Sight Word Swipe Plus is based on the work of Edward William Dolch who first compiled a list of frequently used English words in the 1930's. The list of words comprises more than half of the words commonly used in everyday literature from newspapers and magazines to novels and text books.
