The Shrine of Remembrance is a war memorial to all Victorian servicemen and women and an iconic Melbourne landmark. It is a permanent and lasting monument to the ANZAC Spirit. The gardens around the Shrine, known as the Shrine Reserve, contain a number of commemorative statues, memorials and approximately 300 remembrance trees. This app, designed for school students, includes a self guided walk of 12 key points in the Shrine Reserve and interviews with seven Victorian veterans. For each location on the reserve, a short video plays explaining its purpose and historical significance. Locations cover the First World War, the Second World War and other conflicts involving Australian servicemen and women. The veterans videos, titled In Our Words, explore a number of themes including enlistment, the home front during the Second World War, prisoners of war and current service. This App was developed with the generous support of the Portland House Foundation.
