Not only does this clear-cut program give you a comfortable amount of control over what traces gets deleted, but it also gets the job done with a minimum of user intervention. Safe Guard Pro's straightforward interface has a left-side menu holding the four main options. It's easy to use, which is a good thing, because there's no Help file in sight.
The first, Home, is where the cleaning takes place. Check boxes make the process very quick and users who've used the Disk Cleanup tool will recognize many of the areas offered here. You'll be able to clear the Recycle Bin, the clipboard, recent document lists, as well as surfing traces like typed URLs, auto-complete passwords and forms data, and cookies. We were impressed by the option to create lists of typed URLs, cookies and pages from browser history that you don't want purged. Safe Guard Pro makes this easy, too, and you just click the Add button to put items on the Keep List. Once a cleaning scan has run, you're presented with a list of items that were purged. You can save this list as a text file for future reference. The Deletion section lets you pick any files and folders for deletion and offers three levels of security. It doesn't support drag-and-drop functionality, but it does have a built-in directory browser. Finally, the settings in the Advanced section give you options to schedule cleanings, set hot keys, and set startup options.
This well-rounded cleaner may not have a Help file, but it's flexible and easy to use. The one exception to Safe Guard Pro's flexibility is the one-day trial period. It's one of the shortest we've encountered, but it should still prove long enough to test this trace cleaning program.
