Ruwharo - High Priest is an interactive story which describes how Ruwharo, a high priest, travelled from Tahiti to the Kaipara region of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and upon his arrival blessed the area by scattering grains of sand from Tahiti, nurtured a large population of fish and oysters, then placed a giant rock and named the place O Ruwharo to let everyone know he had been there, before moving on to explore more of the country. This story was written and illustrated by Te Kura Kaupapa Mori o Ngaringaomatariki, and commissioned by Te Rnanga o Ngti Whtua as part of a strategy to re-invigorate the Mori language, and has the special feature where the text from the story synchronizes with the students narration in both the English and Mori languages.
