When you retire is a personal decision based on several factors. Often the biggest factor is estimating your life expectancy. This app simply shows you in a table format the total of benefits you could receive for each retirement age and three possible life expectancies.
The app computes the total payout of the Social Security Administration's estimated benefits for different life expectancy in relation to 9 possible starting retirement ages you can choose from to begin receiving benefits.
The app relies on the monthly benefit estimates you receive from your Social Security Administration (SSA) Statement that is mailed to you. If you do not have a copy of your Statement you can obtain the information needed for the estimator from https://ssa.gov/myaccount.
Along with other excellent information on when to start receiving your benefits, SSA provides you with three estimates of your monthly benefit based upon your chosen retirement age. The first is the benefit at 'full retirement' (often age 66). The second is the benefit if you retire at age 70. The third value is the benefit you will receive at age 62 or older. This app only uses the first two estimates.
