PeaceFem brings together available data on women and peacemaking in one easy-to-use app in English and Arabic. The app contains strategies that have been employed to influence peace processes as well as the resulting gender-language provisions and data on their implementation. Covering 30 peace agreements across 19 peace processes so far, PeaceFem is intended to give mediation teams, women's rights advocates, parties to negotiations, and others active in the field a better understanding of women's participation and peace agreement gender language.
The app can be searched by any of the criteria: region, country/entity, peace process, strategy, provision of agreement name, or any combination of those.
Then, the returned information is displayed in boxes for each agreement and can be explored in detail by using the buttons for gender provisions, strategies, factors, and other provisions.
The icons along the bottom enable the app are to be browsed by country, region, strategy or provision.
The app provides a How to Use PeaceFem tool for more detailed instructions.
PeaceFem was produced by researchers, peace and security practitioners and gender specialists from UN Women Regional Office for Arab States, the Political Settlements Research Program (PSRP) at the University of Edinburgh, Inclusive Peace (IP) and Monash University's Centre for Gender, Peace & Security (Monash GPS).
