Ordix Mpack Professional

Editors' Review

Download.com Staff Feb 27, 2009
This program for splitting large files and unifying small ones has some flaws. First, once installation finishes, you don't get the choice to launch the program. When you do launch it manually, two nag screens whinge about the non-registered version. The interface itself looks more like a media player than a compression utility, which reveals its emphasis on joining MPEG files. Most functions work much better with MPEG files than with other formats. The scrolling menu on the left side is awkward. Ordix Mpack Professional performs well, but its features and interface need improvement. Heavy media users would benefit most from this program.

Developer's Description

Ordix Mpack provides an intuitive and user-friendly interface for the joining or splitting of files. Although you can use Ordix Mpack to combine any types of files you'd like, the program was specifically designed to combine MPEG files. MPEG Compatibility Check allows the user to check whether different MPEG files are suitable to be packed together as a single file for uninterrupted viewing enjoyment. You can add as many files as you like to the list and easily reorder them to meet your needs. With the Unpack feature, you can unpack files into multiple smaller files for easy transport.

The application's available options allow you to select a default Save folder, a default unpacking size, and a default file type, and to determine the speed of the transfer rate. Ordix Mpack is easy to use and includes online help. This new version has significant interface improvements, a new enhanced MPEG Compatibility Check 3, and the ability to split MPEGs. Version 4.72 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
