ObscuraCam from The Guardian Project detects faces in images and obscures them in various ways, including pixels, masks, and total redaction. ObscuraCam protects privacy by obscuring individuals' identity, but it works with any image on your phone or tablet, so you can obscure logos, street addresses, or anything you don't want to share with the world.
Clever app: Tapping New Picture in ObscuraCam's layout opened our camera, or we could tap Obscure Photo or Obscure Video, browse to items using one of our existing gallery apps, and open them in ObscuraCam.
Clever disguise: We could "protect" the identity (if not the dignity) of individuals with the old reliable false nose & glasses by selecting Mask in ObscuraCam's scrolling menu of distortion effects.
Learning curve: Touching an image pixelates the contact area, yet you must press and hold to resize or move the selection area, causing overlaid selections. It takes a little practice.
ObscuraCam's face-recognition and sizing technology worked quite well. We were able to distort eyes, faces, or whole figures with different effects with minimal time and effort.
