Monologue is a minimalist writing app for building a habit of writing every day. To help you get going Monologue keeps track of your weekly writing goal and helps you overcome writers block by forcing you to keep going while writing. Use this app to write down ideas, notes, essays, blog posts, a journal, daily pages or first drafts of any writing.

When you start writing with Monologue, you first select a session time which can be chosen from presets from 1 minute up to 1 hour. During the session you are not allowed to stop writing for more than five seconds! If you do so, your current text will be cleared and you will start over. This forces you to always keep going with your current train of thoughts, getting everything down in writing, and not getting hung up on editing. Even if you don't know what to write it is okay to put in filler words or nonsense words until your mind comes up with something to say. After finishing the session, your text will be saved in the app and you can go back and edit it then. You can also easily export the text to the clipboard, email, or any other app.
Monologue is particularly useful for techniques such as daily pages or morning pages as described by teacher and writer, Julia Cameron, or for gathering ideas using the Fieldstone method as described by Gerald Weinberg. A good summary of these and other similar techniques can be found in Pragmatic Thinking & Learning by Andy Hunt.
