• Freeware performed perfectly

  Pros

  500G WD external hdd would not mount and could not be repaired by DiskUtility. Downloaded freeware above, began scan at 7pm, set macmini to "never sleep" and let it run overnight. Awoke to the hdd properly mounted and all files recovered.

  Cons

  There was no report from the software showing what had been repaired or recovered etc. Time machine appears to not be working anymore, but I don't care, I will not be relying on this hdd for anything more than third tier redundancy from now on.

  Summary

  My hdd was not dropped or damaged, it is just old and must have experienced some failure in the boot sequence that prevented it from mounting. I am not sure what the software did or repaired, it just worked. A report would have been nice to understand what happened, but I'm not complaining.

  Pros

  Found all the important files I was looking for in my damaged hard drive. It shows preserved directory structure when it can find it. It took a full day to scan the disk prior to being able to restore files--that's pretty standard apparently. But once scanned, the lookup of filenames and restoring individual files was really zippy.

  Cons

  Not terribly intuitive to use; but hopefully you're not doing this every day. Doesn't have prebuilt filename filters for a lot of file types common to Mac (for example, you can't filter on '.key' to look for Keynote files). You *think* you're going to be able to recreate your hard drive from the files themselves, but it's so much harder when the directory structure isn't intact. So many directories on the Mac have parallel structures, or have structures that you never see except when you're trying to recover something like your email or your photo library.

  Summary

  Perfectly manageable disk recovery at a good price.

  Looks easy to use with Icons that are pretty self explanatory.

  Doesn't seem to find much to restore,.. maybe this App works better on a Windows PC computer.

  Summary

  Had to resort to other ways to find and restore my lost data. Mini Tool didn't find anything for me!

  Pros

  I got all my photos back that i had lost and it really didn't take much time at all. The process is easy to follow and i was amazed that it retrieved files i thought i had lost months ago.

  Cons

  The only con i really had was mainly because of my own ignorance of technical terms. When it asked to pick which external device, i was slightly confused as to which one to pick as it all just seemed like jargon. Eventually figured it out however, and obviously not everyone would have the same problem i did.

  Summary

  Always wary of downloading files off the internet, i found myself in a desperate situation after my photos miraculously deleted after plugging into my mac ( not the first time). Luckily this software worked and everything i needed was returned. Highly recommended.

• Supports iPods, BUT BEWARE - not all iPods.

  This is probably a great product for recovering data from iPod, as long as you have the right kind of iPod.

  Cons

  Nowhere does it say it doesn't support iPod with iOS.

  Summary

  On developer's website it says "It support IDE, SATA, SCSI, USB hard disk, memory card, USB flash drive and iPod." Nowhere does it say it doesn't support iPod with iOS, not even in CNet's Publisher's Description. I am disappointed at the lack of this piece of essential data. Hoping to get my money back which the developer has agreed to.
