This program helpfully defrags your hard drive, but not at lightning speed. MindSoft Defrag's small interface is primarily a graphic representation of a hard drive. Using this simple program merely requires answering a series of prompts. You're not going to need a help file for this simple app.
The utility opens with a simple list of your drives. You'll have to choose to either defrag the whole drive or select file types. The program also has a check box to skip defragging large files. A quick click after you make your selections starts the analysis process, but then things slow down considerably. Leave it alone, and when you come back you'll have a short report. There really isn't a lot of useful information, but it is detailed data about your hard drive's size, used space, free space, cluster size, and fragmented files and folders. Simply click a button and you're waiting again. The defrag process isn't any faster than the analysis. After a few minutes, you'll get another short data list detailing the accomplished work. One more click to finish, and the process is over.
This isn't a difficult program to operate, but the hard-drive graphic was almost useless as it was too broad to give an accurate representation of the drive status. MindSoft Defrag isn't the fastest utility in its genre, but it's not the slowest, either. Intermediate to advanced users looking for a simple defrag tool should give this 14-day demo a try. As long as speed isn't a factor.
