MenuBars for Mac

Editors' Review

by   / December 03, 2013

MenuBars for Mac appears as a Dashboard widget and contains short descriptions of several popular third-party apps that integrate with the Mac Menu bar. It's designed to help you improve your overall Mac knowledge by introducing you to potentially helpful software and general OS X tips. It's particularly appealing for new Mac users.

MenuBars for Mac installs quickly and then takes you to the Dashboard. The widget, itself, is extremely basic: It's a list of third-party software used directly from the Mac Menu bar. Also, the widget contains some lesser-known features of OS X related to the Menu bar. Since MenuBars for Mac is not an app store, it doesn't support direct downloads of the featured apps. If you click on the title or screenshot of an app, a browser window will open, taking you to the product download page. In our tests, however, we have found that several of the links were either expired or did not direct us to a relevant site.

Although it's basic, MenuBars for Mac can still offer you value if you are not familiar with the greater Mac app ecosystem and want to learn more. It can be a good read, especially if you are interested in software to enhance your Mac experience. Don't expect too much from it, though.
