Magic Lens Max

Editors' Review

by   / March 20, 2009

Magic Lens Max offers visually impaired users a virtual screen magnifier. We found it very easy to navigate, but the numerous configuration options might be confusing to some.

When activated, the main user interface appears on your desktop, and it's packed with a number of settings to show or hide the magnifier, change the lens shape, pick the color mode, adjust the zoom percentage, color levels, and the lens size and border, among other things. Also from the interface, you can create hot-key combinations for zooming, rotating, and more. We certainly appreciate all of the options, but would have appreciated a more user-accessible presentation. And some of the options were confusing, despite the Help file. A Help menu is available, but we still had to play around with some of the controls to find out their functions. Once we activated the magnifying lens, however, we found it very easy to read and to navigate. Using our mouse, we were able to hover it over documents, files, folders, and even our browser window. The text and pictures were crystal clear in the magnified-lens view.

The program has a 30-day trial period, which should be plenty of time to get acquainted with the program and its settings. We highly recommend Magic Lens Max for any visually impaired users.
