Jewel Up

Editors' Review

by   / July 14, 2011

What is it about match-three puzzle games that makes them so irresistible? You know the ones: you link three or more objects of the same color together in order to clear them from the board and earn points. We don't know why these games are so entertaining, but they certainly keep us playing for way longer than we mean to. Jewel Up is a fun variation on this type of puzzle, with three game modes and a variety of options for customization. If you enjoy match-three games, we think you'll like Jewel Up quite a bit.

The object of Jewel Up is to link up jewels of the same color, which then powers up chargers on the board--one for each color. Powering all the chargers lets users advance to the next level. There's a time limit on each level, so users have to be fast or the game will end. Players who really enjoy racing the clock will enjoy the Time Attack mode, which challenges users to earn as many points as possible within 60 seconds. An Endless mode lets users play Jewel Up eternally, with no pressure to power chargers or beat the time limit. Each game mode comes with instructions, and there are a variety of ways that users can customize the game, too; Jewel Up provides a variety of game boards and gem styles to choose from. At its heart, Jewel Up is just another match-three puzzle, but with multiple game modes and options it definitely stands out from the crowd.

Jewel Up installs a desktop icon without asking and leaves a Start menu icon behind upon removal. We recommend this game to users.
