We have to say it: the Force is not with this one. Imperial Training puts you in the cockpit of a TIE Fighter based on the classic rebel ships from the classic film Star Wars. Your goal (which needs little explanation if you've seen the movie, of course) is to shoot down the Empire's X-wings while collecting silver medals and keeping your ship from blowing up. This game makes the Death Star, circa 1977, look state-of-the-art. The graphics are blocky and the sounds aren't much more than bleeps and drones. Game controls are very awkward, and the ship doesn't fly so much as drag itself across the universe (as well as across the main game window, which can't be expanded to full-screen size). Sure, it's free. But so is Spider solitaire.
In this Star Wars-based arcade-style game from Underground Game Design, you fly through space in a TIE Fighter and try to avoid the enemy X-wings. Pick up tokens to gain the Empire's approval; try to survive and gain the highest score. The game was created using Game Maker 6.0 and Underground Game Design resources.
