Hurricane by American Red Cross provides all kinds of information to help you prepare for and recover from a hurricane in your area. You can track the progress of existing storms, and you can create an emergency plan for your family, all straight from the app.

Pros

Tons of info: Whether you're interested in the history of hurricanes in a particular region, or you want to know what to have on-hand when a storm is approaching, this app has all the information you're looking for. It's also conveniently divided into different sections, so you can quickly find out what to do before, during, or after a hurricane with just a few taps.

Planning tools: In addition to tips and instructions, this app includes a feature that walks you through the process of creating an emergency plan for your family. You can add family members, assign specific responsibilities to them, and pick out meeting places, in case you are separated before or during the storm.

Location notifications: You can also configure notifications through this app that will alert you when a hurricane is heading to a location you are monitoring. You can select multiple locations, so even if you don't live in an area at great risk for hurricanes, you can get information about places that are, in case you have friends or family who live there.

Cons

Responsibility bugs: During testing, we encountered some issues with the emergency planning feature. Initially we were unable to add responsibilities for each family member when prompted to do so, although exiting the plan and reentering it activated that feature again, and we were eventually able to complete the process.

Bottom Line

This app is a great resource, especially if you or your loved ones live in an area that's likely to be hit by a hurricane. It functions both as a reference and emergency resource, and its clear organization makes it easy to find what you're looking for quickly.
