Editors' Review
While the casual movie fan might be content to keep her or his movie collection on a shelf and pay little attention to it, true film buffs tend to be a bit more proactive when it comes to organization. GrieeX Movie Archive Program is a database that lets people keep track of the movies they own and import a variety of related information from the Internet, too. We like the premise of the program, but in practice, it leaves a lot to be desired.
The program's interface is plain and fairly easy to navigate, although some of its features are not entirely intuitive. It wasn't long before we set out in search of the Help file to clarify a few things, but unfortunately, the program doesn't have one. There are three ways to add content to the program: users can add an actual video file, manually enter the title of a movie and have the program search the Internet for details, or, as the interface says, "Add With Folder." When we tried to add a video file, we got an error message. The second option worked well enough, and did indeed import information from IMDb for the movie that we entered. We're not sure what the third option means, and when we selected it, a check box labeled "Bring me not on my library file" served only to confuse us further. The program does have a few cool features--users can import not only IMDb information but also movie posters, subtitles, and information from Animenfo--but its basic functional problems and lack of Help file make it hard to recommend.
Grieex Movie Archive Program comes as a ZIP file. It installs politely but leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this program with reservations.
