GlassWire watches network activity on your Android phone, monitoring which apps are eating up your mobile data.
Real-time network monitoring: GlassWire monitors networking activity on your Android -- over your mobile-carrier network and Wi-Fi -- and displays a real-time graph of activity. You can choose a period of time for the graph to display -- from one minute to 90 days -- to check for activity patterns. Below the graph, GlassWire shows apps active during the period of time you selected, ordered by network usage. The free app has done a nice job of making its attractive charts easy to grasp at a glance.
You can tap an app icon to get more information on it, including networking activity and usage, when you first installed it, and which permissions you've granted it.
Set alerts: You can set alerts based on your data plan. Enter your data-plan limit, then choose plan type, billing cycle, and start date, and GlassWire will alert you when you reach 90 percent of your monthly data usage and then when you hit it. GlassWire lets you an exclude app from data usage if your carrier doesn't count the app against your cap. You can also set a custom plan, based on mobile or Wi-Fi usage, data used, or by time period, for example.
Watches for new activity: GlassWire will notify you the first time an app accesses a network -- your mobile carrier's or Wi-Fi -- which is helpful to watch for unexpected or suspicious network activity.
Privacy: The maker of GlassWire said it does not sell user data to third parties and that all information its app collects about data and app usage never leaves your phone.
Not enough insight into networking activity: GlassWire is a handy companion to an antivirus app, helping you watch for potentially suspicious networking activity. If possible, it would be nice to see more details on what an app is doing on the network.
GlassWire gives you a window into your apps' networking activities, letting you easily watch your network traffic to track how much data your apps are using on your carrier's and Wi-Fi networks. It doesn't actively guard your phone, but instead, helps you keep tabs on what your apps are up to.
GlassWire counts your mobile carrier data (Edge, 3G, 46, 5G, LTE, CDMA, UMTS, GSM, GPRS, mobile hotspots) and shows you detailed usage statistics on GlassWire's "Usage" screen, along with your WiFi data. See your mobile phone provider data for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-mobile, Virgin, Vodafone, Orange, EE, 3, Swisscom, Telia, Movistar, O2, and all others. See data usage for different apps like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Pokemon Go, Netflix, Youtube, Instagram, Pandora, Spotify, Pinterest, Whatsapp, Skype, Kik, and any other apps you use.
