This unpolished and virtually featureless shooting game fails to entertain for more than a few minutes. In Freedom Gunner, your job is to protect the base from enemy attack by annihilating your foes with your pivoting cannon. Controlling the game via the arrow keys and the spacebar is a snap, although we were baffled as to what the game's ultimate goal was. There was no counter to track our score, we were never able to get past the first level, and the help files provided no insight as to how to advance. The graphics and sound effects are simple and humdrum, though we did think the explosions looked more realistic than the rest of the scene. You won't even find a menu item for options in Freedom Gunner, so you can't configure a single aspect of the game. Even worse, we experienced several crashes in our tests with no further explanation. The game might interest younger players for a short amount of time, but most folks won't even last that long.
In Freedom Gunner, it's up to you to save your base from the onslaught of attacking enemies. You are the torrent gunner and the only hope for all free men. This classic-arcade-style shooter will keep you warding off the enemy for hours.
