Flint Eats is a mobile application that was designed by researchers at Michigan State University and residents in Flint, Michigan. The app was designed with four goals in mind:
1) To provide Flint residents with a way to share information about the quality and cost of food available from Local Food Retailers;
2) To provide Flint residents with a way to share knowledge about food preparation and nutritional value;
3) To provide Flint retailers with an opportunity to advertise affordable, healthy food to Flint residents;
4) To create incentives for food retailers in Flint to provide healthy, high quality food in safe, friendly, accessible environments.
The app provides a map-based interface, indicating where all Local Food Retailers are located (including farmers markets and corner stores), and a social feed where people can create and discuss different types of food related content, including deals and tips, and in subsequent releases, reviews and recipes. The app also includes a reference library where people can learn about foods and retailers in Flint.
