This program tames directories by searching and deleting duplicate files, but its same-name search function could spell disaster for some users.
CloneMaster compares file names, sizes, and dates for user-selected drives and directories. Boasting a tabbed interface, the program returns a list of suspected duplicate files. You can manually choose files for deletion or allow the program to choose. Files with the exact same name, size, and date--but in different directories--are good candidates for deletion. However, files compared by name only and found in different directories are often necessary for various programs and deleting the duplicate could cause problems.
As a result, we found CloneMaster much safer with the duplicate-name function disabled. Unfortunately, the demo's delete feature is disabled, a serious limit to this app's usefulness. Still, CloneMaster performs its intended task well and is recommended for all users who maintain many directories of files. Digital photographers will find it especially useful.
