Chance Them adds serendipity to a person's social network. The app works by picking a random contact from an address book and then sending a scrambled message to that person. The app's target audience are people who send text or email messages to contacts in their social network. There are three main use cases for the app, each having a unique feature.First, the app can be used as a fun puzzle. Since the message is scrambled, the recipient is challenged to try to decipher the content. The sender controls the level of difficulty by toggling a slider in the app. Second, the app can be used for privacy. Since the message is scrambled, a bystander would not immediately be able to read the content of the message. So if a person leaves their phone unattended and unlocked, they can still retain a degree of privacy. Also, Chance Them only reveals the descrambled message 1 time to further enhance privacy. Finally, the app can be used to strengthen a person's total network by acting as a sort of "soft" introduction for infrequent contacts. In other words, the app randomly picks a contact and can be used as a good way to start up a conversation that otherwise would not take place.
