Caviar for iPhone is a restaurant delivery app for ordering from a wide variety of restaurants, quickly and efficiently. You can also order for pickup in the app.
Easy to start: To create an account, add your name, email, password, and phone number. Then share your location with the app, so that it can find restaurants near you. Add your address for delivery and then save your address for future orders.
Minimal UI: Caviar has no bottom rail or overwhelming menu, but it remains an easy app to get around. The address field is up top, so you can set your delivery location and delivery time -- whether asap or at another time in 30-minute increments over the next week -- or save the delivery fee and make arrangements for pickup. Underneath is a search field to search for items or restaurants. Or you can scroll down to see eateries that serve your area. You can also tap the Filters icon on the top right to sort by Cuisines, a Feature, Price, and Diet.
Powerful filters: Tap the Filters button, and you'll find 20 different cuisines; features like Catering, an Extensive Menu, High Reliability, High Volume, Infatuation Approved, Infatuation Rated, Labels Consistently, and Zagat Rated; and the ability to sort by price or dietary restrictions, including Dairy-free, Gluten-free, Halal, Kosher, Nut-free, Organic, Paleo, Raw, Vegan, and Vegetarian.
Multiple ways to search: You can browse all the restaurants near you or perform a keyword search or search by curated collections, including Staff Picks, Only Available on Caviar, The Infatuation Approved, Free Delivery, Delivery Under 30 Minutes, Pickup Spots Near You, Trending Dishes, New, Healthy, Can't Get a Reservation, Dinner for Two, Caviar Secret Menu, and Everyday Eats. Here you'll also find sections organized around items, such as Chicken, Pizza, or Thai, as well as Magazine-curated collections. Swipe left to right under any of these options to see more choices in the carousel.
Variety of cuisines: Caviar offers 20 cuisines based on place of origin, food group, specific dish, or time of day, including American, Barbecue, Brunch, Burgers, Chinese, Comfort, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mediterranean, Mexican, Pizza, Salad, Sandwiches, Seafood, Steakhouse, Thai, and Vietnamese. You can select one or multiple.
Fine restaurants, too: Unlike some competing apps that seem to focus more on fast food chains, Caviar, as its name implies, includes fancier restaurants in its roster along with more affordable eateries.
Robust restaurant info: Browse photo-driven menus of restaurants near you, so you know precisely what you're getting. In search results, you'll see a general restaurant photo, an address, cuisine type or types, price point, and whether the restaurant offers free delivery. Open any restaurant or item to see a detailed description and mouth-watering photo. In contrast to competing apps, every item we saw here had a picture, so you know precisely what to expect from your dish.
Easy ordering: To order, just tap any item or restaurant (and then any item) to add it to your cart. You can also add any special requests for the restaurant here, such as the all-important "Extra Ranch Dressing." Then tap View Cart and add your payment info and a promo code if you have one and then tap the Schedule Delivery Order tab.
Delivery or pickup: Whether you want your food delivered or you're willing to brave the elements and traffic to go and pick it up, Caviar can help you place your order.
Real-time GPS: If you allow notifications, then you can get push notifications about your order. But if you're too impatient to wait, then you can also track your meal with real-time GPS.
Easy reorders: Favorite your favorite dishes for quick and simple reordering.
Available in 21 major cities and markets: Caviar serves major cities and markets, including Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Worth, Greater Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Marin, Orange County, the Bay Area Peninsula, Philadelphia, Portland, Queens, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Seattle Eastside, Walnut Creek, and Washington D.C.
Only available in 21 cities and markets: If you don't live in one of the areas that Caviar serves, then it'll be of no use to you.
Non-standard delivery fee, plus others: Caviar's delivery fee isn't standard, which means you won't know if the price is right till you start your order. "The fee varies across restaurants based on travel time from the restaurant and other costs associated with each restaurant partner," according to the company.
Note: A Service Fee of 18 percent is added to each order, too. Also, some restaurants may include additional fees for each order.
Caviar for iPhone is an excellent restaurant delivery app. You'll love it -- if it's available in your area.
