Editors' Review
Bumble for Android is a female-first dating app that helps users of all genders find friends, relationships, and networking connections.
Pros
For dates, friends, or networking: On Bumble, you can easily switch between Bumble Date to find a date or relationship, BumbleBFF to find friends, and BumbleBizz to make professional connections.
Women first: So that men can't harass and harangue women, if a heterosexual match is made in Bumble (unlike Tinder or OKCupid, for example), only the woman can make the first move.
In same-sex matches, either person can make initial contact. If anyone gets out of line at any point, you can block and report them.
Robust profiles: You can add up to six photos. You can also add a short bio, your job, and education history, and even connect your Instagram or Spotify account so that other users get a better sense of you.
Safety first: Unlike some competing apps, Bumble requires at least one photo for transparency sake. To dissuade users from putting up fake photos, the app encourages account verification, where you are asked to take a selfie in a position that mimics a sample photo you are shown. That way users will know that you're who you say you are.
Quick connections: In Bumble, you'll be served a series of photos, and you'll swipe right if you're interested and left if you're not. If you match, you'll get a notification. Then you only have 24 hours to make contact or respond or the connection expires. That forces users to make bold moves that may lead to real-life matching.
Facebook-free registration: After all the recent Facebook controversy, Bumble recently introduced Facebook-free registration. Now users can register and log in with their phone numbers if they've dropped Facebook or don't want to provide Bumble access to their Facebook info. Tinder, for example, still requires a Facebook connection.
Cons
Customer service complaints: On the Consumer Affairs site, there are several complaints lodged against Bumble's customer service, describing it as hard to reach and difficult to deal with.
Bottom Line
If you're looking for a dating app where women's safety is a top priority, then make a beeline for Bumble.
