Editors' Review

by   / December 07, 2008

Have you taken a good look at your Registry lately? Orphaned program references, forgotten DLLs--what a mess. Advanced Registry Doctor Pro clears out the clutter and boosts system performance in the process. It gives you several options for scanning your Registry for faulty entries, such as invalid program shortcuts, useless fonts, and needless file extensions. Should something go wrong after cleaning, you can roll back the changes. We like Advanced Registry Doctor Pro's other features, which include a defragmenter, a backup utility, and a tool for scheduling Registry wipes. You also will find utilities for managing start-up programs and protecting against adware (ActiveX blocking). The Optimize Your PC button tweaks some Windows settings related to interface, network connection, and stopping hung applications, but unfortunately, it doesn't let you choose which optimizations to apply (at least you can reverse the effects if necessary). And don't expect a full tune-up for nothing; the demo removes only one out of every three junk Registry entries it finds. Free Registry cleaners are abundant, but we still think Advanced Registry Doctor Pro is worthwhile for its strong performance and supplementary features.
