This freeware offers a slight improvement over the UserPasswords2 control, but don't expect a pretty interface. Account Manager for Win XP/Vista Home takes a very bare bones approach to interface design. Black text on a white background, small buttons, and no ability to change fonts or button positions. However, the program's simplicity should appeal to intermediate users and above who prefer function over form.
Operating this application requires a basic knowledge of user and group accounts. The program offers no instruction and very basic warning messages. With just a couple of clicks users can quickly create new accounts and groups. It's just as easy to add members to both the new and existing groups. This utility also allows users to alter the Administrator and Guest accounts. Both are hidden from view in UserPasswords2.
Account Manager for Win XP/Vista Home isn't going to win any awards for design or function, but the freeware offers a helpful tool for experienced users.
The applet to manage user accounts and groups is forbidden in the Home versions of Windows XP and Vista. Account Manager is a simple substitution for the system applet Account Manager works in all versions of Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003/Vista.Technical note: Account Manager is HTA application - a combinations of VB script and HTML. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.
