"Not worth the download!!"
Version: xBaseView Database Explorer 7.2 build 0661
Pros
The program comes with a 30 day trial which is thankfully an over abundance of time to remove it from your system.
Cons
Everything else.
Summary
From the moment of it's first start this program is unpleasant to run. The first thing you are faced with is a registration screen with no design to imply what action to take to merely try the program before registration. A little counter in the corner saying "you have 30 of 30 days" is not only poorly worded but also not much of a clue when you look around the rest of the screen and your only option to try the product is to click the cancel button. Although clicking the cancel button is intuitive enough, it's only shows the developers lack of thorough thought process when it was coded.
The initial registration screen however is only a minor irritation and would not be worth mentioning if it were not for the other flaws of the program. The archaic file selection screen looks like something reminisce of Windows 95 and lacks even the most common default locations to look for your files, leaving you to navigate from root structures to locate the file you would like to open.
.... which it then won't display. I had one particular file I was having a problem opening and decided to give this program a chance since. It was not actually a surprise when it wouldn't open it. However considering the design of the program as I'd seen it so far I consider the possibility that I was merely using it in an intuitive fashion and not in the fashion the designer had chosen to program it and decided to test it further.
What was a surprise upon further testing was this programs refusal to display the contents of ANY of the database files I tried to open with it. Now at this point I could not get this program off my system fast enough. -
"Very good!!!"
