Software Publisher Profile
Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog founded Parallax Software in 1993. They had met at LookingGlass Technologies, where they worked on games such as Car & Driver, Ultima Underworld. Together, they met with several publishers to pitch a three-page script about a game called Miner (later called Inferno, and eventually known as Descent.) Parallax released the shareware version of Descent. It immediately soared to the top of the Top 100 Internet Game charts.
The full version of Descent was released to great sales and critical acclaim. It garnered numerous awards, including the PC Magazine Award for Technical Excellence, and PC Gamer's Editors' Choice (having earned a 96% rating, the second-highest rated ever awarded by PC Gamer). Descent quickly became the most popular multiplayer game on the internet.
