Not all video-capable devices support every format, which sometimes makes conversion a real pain. VideoDrive for Mac allows you to easily manage all your videos via iTunes and play them on your iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple TV in just a few steps, making it easy and fast to take your videos with you anywhere.
At first launch, after a spooky warning, VideoDrive for Mac will propose to install both Perian and Handbrake to be able to function properly. The installation process is smooth. Thanks to Handbrake, the conversion is fast and will make use of every available core on your machine. You may also choose to select QuickTime or Elgato Turbo.264 for encoding. You can encode a single video or queue a bunch of videos to process them automatically in a row. The program is mostly bug-free, even though the automatic artwork finding, which is supposed to search for covers on IMDb, didn't work for us. When it comes to features, we were a bit disappointed to see that there is only a single default setting for each device, so you can't tweak the bit rate, codec, or any other detailed setting. Not really optimal to reduce the file size for mobile devices. Another disappointment is that we couldn't find a way to export the same video for different devices in a single operation. The trial version is limited to exporting 20 non-watermarked movies, which is sufficient to try every aspect of the program.
With a simple workflow and multiple devices supported, this software is suitable for people who own multiple Apple devices but who are not familiar with video conversion. If you are used to more options, perhaps you won't find VideoDrive for Mac too interesting.
