Uninstall Instructions to Remove Blekko - CNET Download.com

Follow these instructions to uninstall the Blekko Spam-Free Search Bar:

Uninstalling the Blekko application

1. Click on the wrench icon on the Look on the right-hand side of the Blekko toolbar
2. In the menu it brings up, click on "Help"
3. In the next menu, click on "Uninstall"
4. Follow the steps in the resulting Uninstall Wizard to uninstall the toolbar completely
Once the program is uninstalled, the toolbar will be gone, but you may still see Blekko when you start your Web browser because some of your configuration settings (such as home page and default search engine) may have changed.

Here are instructions for changing those settings back in IE (Internet Explorer), Firefox, and Chrome.

Resetting browser configurations in Internet Explorer

Revert Home Page

1. Go to Tools > Internet Options
2. Select the General tab
3. Under "Home Page" select and delete the Blekko URL; OR click the "Use default button;" OR enter your own Web site instead of Blekko Spam-Free Search
4. Click OK to save the changes

Revert Search Engines

1. Go to Tools > Manage Add-ons
2. Select "Search Providers"
3. Choose Bing (or any other) search engine and make it your Default
4. Select Blekko Spam-Free Search and click the Remove button


Resetting browser configurations in Mozilla Firefox

By default, downloading the Blekko Spam-Free search bar also changes your default search engine to Blekko, sets your homepage to Blekko.com and changes your address bar search to Blekko. When downloading the search bar, you should have a chance to choose what settings on your Firefox browser to change.

To revert your home page setting

First, go to the URL of the page you want to be your home page. While you are on the page that you'd like to be your homepage, follow these instructions.

1. Go to Tools -> Options
2. Click on the "General" tab
3. Under "Startup" click on "Use Current Pages" to set your home page to the pages you are currently on, or select "Show a blank page" or one of the other options from the drop-down menu
4. If there is still a problem, clicking on "Restore to Default" to reset your home page to the Firefox default setting

To remove Blekko from your list of search engines

1. Click on the down arrow to the left of the search box in the main browser window
2. Select "Manage Search Engines"
3. Select Blekko Spam-Free Search and click "Remove"

To change your address bar search (keyword.URL)

1. Type about:config in the address bar and hit "Enter"
2. Accept the disclaimer and click through
3. Type "keyword.URL" in the search section
4. Either double-click on the Preference Name "keyword.URL" or right-click and select "Modify" to enter your own custom search (e.g. Google is "http://www.google.com/search?q="); or right-click and select "Reset" to restore the Firefox default (Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" search)

To change the search box on your about:home page

1. Type about:config in the address bar and hit "Enter"
2. Accept the disclaimer and click through
3. Edit these about:config entries in this exact order:
          a. Change "browser.search.defaultenginename" to "Google," or right-click on the entry and select "Reset"
          b. Delete the value stored in "browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID" or right-click on the entry and select "Reset"
4. The search box on your about:home page should no longer search blekko

4. Under "On startup" click on "Set pages"
5. Click on the X mark to the right of any Blekko entries to delete them.
6. If you'd like to enter a different home page, type in or paste the URL, then hit "OK"
7. Alternately, you can select "Open the New Tab page" or "Continue where I left off" when starting Google Chrome

To change your default search engine and/or remove Blekko from the list of search engines

1. Click on the "Customize and control" button icon to the right of the address bar. (On most versions of Chrome, it looks like three horizontal bars. On older versions it is a wrench.)
2. In the drop-down menu, select "Settings"
3. Select "Settings" again on the the left-hand side of the Chrome window

4. Searching in the address bar should use the search engine you chose now
5. To remove Blekko from the list of search engines, click "Manage Search Engines"
6. From the "Search Engines" pop-up window that appear, make any search engine except Blekko as the default
7. Hover over the Blekko search-engine entry, then click the little "x" that appears on the far right-hand side
