WHAT WAS THE DOWNLOAD APP?

The Download App was a free service developed and supported by Download.com, designed to help you keep the software on your Windows computer up-to-date.

WHY WAS THE DOWNLOAD APP DISCONTINUED?

Prior to June 18, 2015, we evaluated our services, including the Download App, for several months. Our goal is to make Download.com everyone's go-to destination for software information. In this spirit, we decided to focus on delivering the best service we can through the Download.com web site and decommissioned the Download App. Instead of developing, marketing, distributing, and supporting the Download App, we want to focus on providing a high quality, feature-rich service through the Download.com site instead. Thank you for your support, and for using the Download App!

HOW DO I UNINSTALL THE DOWNLOAD APP?

Since the Download App no longer functions, if you still have it installed on your machine, you will want to remove it at this time.

You should be able to uninstall the Download App from your computer's Control Panel:

  • In Windows XP, click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
  • In Windows Vista, click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
  • In Windows 7, click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
  • In Windows 8, right-click your computer screen's bottom left corner > Programs and Features

Highlight the "Download App" entry in your program list, and click the "Remove" or "Uninstall" button. This will initiate the Uninstall Wizard for the Download App. Just follow the prompts until you are finished, and the Download App will be removed.

If you do not see the Download App in your Programs list, make sure you have rebooted your computer since you installed it. If this does not help, please continue reading.

If the Download App is not showing up in your program list as described in the section above, it is very likely that a third party application such as a registry cleaner or an "aggressive" anti-virus program somehow interfered with the installation of the Download App, or later removed the registry entries the Download App needs in order to be listed in your control panel with your other programs.

Should this be the case, you still have options. We package the Download App software with its own uninstaller that you can run separately.

  1. Locate the following folder, depending on your operating system:
    • *64-bit OS - C:\Program Files (x86)\CBS Interactive\Download App
    • *32-bit OS - C:\Program Files\CBS Interactive\Download App
  2. Within this folder, double-click on "uninst" or "uninst.exe," whichever appears for you. This will initiate uninstallation of the Download App.
  3. Just follow the prompts until it is done, and then re-boot your machine one more time.
