    You have to RESTART the computer to get it loaded on your status bar.

    Here's a You Tube video I found that explains the install and set-up of your fan speed preferences. Very helpful. You must drag the application into your apps folder and then it most likely will appear in you top menu bar -- where your volume control, date, time etc are located.

    I have an iMac running OS10.7.5 and just installed smcFanControl. I doubled the fan speeds from the defaults. The temp on my machine has been going down for the past few minutes -- from 140 degrees F to 127 degrees so far. :-)

    Got it! It just won't let me lower below 1994 rpm. Noise still there.
