Photoshop is Adobe's digital-image creator and editor. It offers extensive photo- and image-editing tools, from basic functions like cropping and adjusting size, brightness, and contrast, to more advanced actions like layering, color replacement, and 3D extrusion. The latest version for Windows and Mac, Photoshop CC 2015, added Adobe Stock, a professional stock-image library; the ability to add up to 10 layering styles; and a more tactile-friendly experience on touch-enabled devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro.
Photoshop CC 2015 works with OS X v10.9 or later and Windows 7 and up. Photoshop CC's free companion apps, Adobe Photoshop Express, which enables you to make basic edits and one-touch auto fixes to your photos and share them over social media and messaging apps; Adobe Photoshop Mix, which lets you cut out and join elements from multiple images, blend layers, and apply looks; and Adobe Photoshop Fix, which lets you liquify, heal, lighten, color, and adjust images, are powerful on their own. But with a paid Creative Cloud account, you'll gain the bonus ability of working on projects seamlessly across devices.

Is there a free Photoshop?
You can get a seven-day free trial of Adobe Photoshop CC with full functionality.
Adobe Photoshop CC may be the premier image editor, but it's expensive and full of features that you may not need. If you just want to touch up photos for personal use, you might be better off with one of these free alternatives to Adobe Photoshop CC for Windows and Mac.
GIMP is an open-source image editor that enables you to do everything from slight retouches to major restoration. It's a paint and drawing tool, a photo retoucher, and a batch processing and conversion tool, with sophisticated features like layers, filters, and effects. If you don't find the tool you need, GIMP's active online community has probably created a third-party plug-in that does what you're looking for.
Paint.Net clearly presents most of the tools you need to create stunning images in the main working window. Add layers, introduce text, or use filters and effects to get the look you're going for. You can also try out third-party plug-ins from the app's online community.
